Global Climate Summits (COP Series)

Every year, the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) gathers governments to negotiate action on climate change. This hub brings together our coverage of each summit — what was promised, what was agreed, and what it means for the planet.

Overview

Each year, governments meet at the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) to negotiate action on climate change. This guide follows those talks, from COP29 in Baku to COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

We report what countries promised, what text they agreed and what remains unresolved. We track the follow-up as well: national climate plans, finance pledges and the funds that support countries hit by climate damage. A promise at a summit is only the first step, so we check what happens after the delegates go home.

What we monitor

  • Negotiated outcomes:

Final decisions, draft texts and the points where talks stalled.
  • Climate finance:

New finance goals, pledges from rich countries and money actually delivered.
  • National climate plans (NDCs):

Updated targets and how they compare with the Paris Agreement goals.
  • Loss and damage:

The fund for vulnerable countries and its first payments.
